On 31st October 2009 we opened our third branch (and first outside London) in Meadowhall Shopping Centre, Sheffield. Opening day was a blast as we welcomed all sorts of people in to our gorgeous new restaurant, complete with authentic Mexican signage, textured tiles and striking photography. Check out the full set of photos here and watch this video for Latin dancing girls, first time burrito experiences and mariachi madness:
In true Chilango style, festivities continued in to the following weeks and we continue to extend a warm welcome to local businesses and work hard to promote Mexican food in the North of England.
On the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights following the grand opening we held VIP nights at the restaurant, welcoming local retailers and notable personalities and treating them to a taste of Mexico. Chilango Feedback Fundi Shannon McKenzie describes the nights as “Awesome people having fun. The music was great, the staff were excited and happy and it was the first time for me that the Meadowhall restaurant felt to me like Chilango in every aspect.”
Wednesday was the busiest night with around 70 guests including a crowd from Sheffield Wednesday who all had a great time. Sheffield University’s Latin & Mexican Society dropped in and had some interesting ideas and comments, particularly about the salsas. They said the food was the most authentic Mexican they have had in the UK. We smiled widely.
More recently Shannon paid a visit to Hallam FM bearing gifts – thirty burritos, Chilango t-shirts and other goodies. They were thrilled with the delivery and all loved the food, as presenter Ed Nell tweeted: “I’m stuffed after a free lunch thanks to @chilango_uk…lovely!”
She’s not the only one hobnobbing with local media – Chilango Meadowhall Manager Eli Nadel appeared on BBC Sheffield live on Saturday 14th November. He did such a fabulous job customers are still coming in asking for him! We’ll post a link to the audio as soon as we get it.
Thanks for such a warm welcome, Sheffield!
